New Year, New Bedroom?

There are tones of books out there now guiding you on how to have a hygge home, or a room so mindful that a buddha would love it. For me, I think rooms like your bedroom should be a little private sanctuary. As someone who has had trouble sleeping in the past, I know the importance of a well-thought out bedroom. Check out my top tips for the perfect bedroom!

Blackout Curtains

I'm quite a light sleeper, so my number one essential is blackout curtains. Honestly, I hadn't even considered them properly, but when I started to prep the nursery for Robin, all I read about was blackout curtains to ensure he slept soundly. But if it works for a baby, then of course it would work for you! Blackout curtains compliment any room - you can check these from Yorkshire Linen - as they come in all colours and designs. If, like me, you thought blackout curtains were all black, then think again!

No Electronics

This is something I am slowly trying to wean myself on. It can be easy to just scroll through twitter or instagram for hours once you snuggle up in bed, but this is keeping your mind active. And an active mind means no sleeping! Now, I try to keep off my phone an hour before I intend on sleeping, and do something more relaxing like read a book or do some embroidery. It's not just your phone either, as watching TV can be just as bad. I love a good Netflix marathon as much as the next gal, but if you want to switch off for sleep, then you gotta switch off the tv!

Cosy Bedding

I'm a bit of a sucker when it comes to bedding. Maybe it's a sign of getting older, but now when there's a big sale I look for luxury bedding rather than shoes or jewellery. I know right, who even am I? In the summertime, you might want to have a thinner bedsheet which can keep you cool, but during the cold wintertime, I'm all about extras. I up the tog rating of my duvet, add a fluffy blanket or two and try to ensure that my bedding has a heavier feel to it, to keep me super cosy!
So there we have it, my top tips for ensuring you're as snug as possible at bedtime! Do you have any extra tips to share?
