Pass on the Passion!

Sticking with the prompts again today, kind of. I'm sure you all know that I'm studying Publishing at uni with hope to work in the publishing industry in the future. Now, let's dive into that a bit more, shall we?

The area I'd like to work in is children's publishing. It feels quite natural for me to say that as I have a little boy and I am passionate about ensuring he reads. I have always loved books, as a child I doted on Peter Rabbit and Winnie The Pooh stories. I loved snuggling up in bed and having someone read me a story, or me attempting to read my own. These are books I still have today, and I cannot wait to share them with Dylan when he's a little older. Growing from Peter Rabbit, I began to love The Chronicles of Narnia stories, The Little Princess and The Secret Garden - stories that allowed my imagination to run wild.

Gotta love that social media!
Of course, when I was a teen Young Adult novels weren't really a 'thing'. Sure, I'd read my fair share of Jacqueline Wilson stories, but there was no Hunger Games equivalent in 2003. These days, I really enjoy reading YA novels, so that's another area of publishing I'd like to explore. Another area of my interest, is social media. I've based my main project at uni this year on live tweeting events, and that was quite fun. I'd love to be able to go to book fairs around the globe, tweeting away, and call that my job. I'll be going into my third year at uni in September, so I'm hoping I might narrow down what I'd like to do a bit better. Who knows, maybe this time next year I'll have my life sussed out? Scary!

What would you love to do for a living?

  1. I love having a daughter that loves books as much as I do. When she was young I couldn't wait to re-read my favourite childhood books. Good luck with the studying, I also went back to uni with a child. It's hard work but so worth it :) I'm taking Bart in BEDM aswell and looking forward to reading the rest of your posts this month x

  2. Working in publishing would be a fabulous job! I adore books; I often joke that my books are extra insulation for my house are there are SO many of them! I'm lucky that Lucas loves to read, too, although he isn't very fond of Winnie The Pooh and I saved those books especially for him!

    1. Ah, that's a shame! I love my Winnie The Pooh books. I've kept my Peter Rabbit books for Dylan but he is *definitely* too young for them. So scared he'll rip them! D:

  3. Well jel, if I was going to do everything all over again I'd love to do publishing. That or upholding the law. Very similar options!
Eeep one more year and all your shit will be sorted. Sort of. Maybe. Right?
